JWH Weekly Update

December 10 - 14, 2018

On Thursday, December 6, we sent a message to all our grade 1 Parent / Guardians notifying you of the December 7 start for submitting an application for the Full Day, Grade 2 French Immersion program. We also sent home a hard copy of the application form. If you are interested in having your grade 1 child enrolled in French Immersion next year please make sure that your application is submitted to the school before the FIRM deadline of Thursday, January 31, 2019.

Our Winter Concert will take place on Wednesday, December 12 at 6:30 pm. Our grade 1s through grade 4/5s have been working hard on their class performances. Under the wonderful direction of Ms. White, the Jazz Band, Intermediate Choir, and Concert Band will also perform. Continuing the “picnic style” tradition of sitting on the gym floor, there will be a few chairs set up for those who need them! Please have your child arrive at the school by 6:15 pm, dressed in holiday colours or comfy, cozy clothing!

On Wednesday, December 19 our Kindergarten students are having their Holiday Concert. Family members are invited to come to the school at 1:45 pm for a 2:00 pm concert start. The concert will be taking place in the gymnasium.  Please bring a blanket to sit on and snuggle into while you sit back and enjoy the show.  We will have some chairs set up for any grandparents attending, or for anyone else that requires a chair.

A reminder that our Me to We club has chosen Food4Kids as their charitable drive this holiday season. The campaign will run for three days; Monday, December 10, through Wednesday, December 12. It will end with donations that may be dropped off at the Winter Concert. Earlier in the week we sent home a list of food items that Food4Kids is accepting. Thank you!

Our Grade 2s are heading to Ireland House Museum in Burlington on Thursday, December 13. A payment of $20.00 is due on Monday, December 10. Students will learn about celebrations around the world. The bus leaves promptly at 9 AM - please be on time  - and returns to the school at approximately 2 pm.

Multicultural club is also organizing a charitable drive for new and gently used winter clothing. This campaign will run through until the last day of school; December 21. The drop off box is sitting in the front hall by the Christmas tree. If you have any winter clothing that your child(ren) have outgrown, we would be happy to have it donated here!

A reminder to parents that fast food should not be brought or delivered to the school for your child’s lunch or snack, since we cannot know whether these foods contain allergens that may put our anaphylactic students at risk. Thank you for helping keep all our students safe.

The lost and found bin is once again overflowing with clothing, boots, mittens and water bottles. We will arrange to have the clothing out on the evening of the Winter Concert for parents to check. Anything that is leftover will be donated to the Winter Clothing Drive on December 21. In the meantime, please encourage your child to come down and look for lost items.

Thank you to all of the parents that have notified the school of early departures and /or late returns surrounding the holiday break. If you are leaving earlier than December 21 and/or returning after January 7, 2019, please let the school know your plans. Absences can be recorded, using the school messenger system, for several days in a row. If you are not sure how to do this, we will be happy to help you, rather than have the system calling out to you during your vacation! Thank you.
