JWH Weekly Update

December 17-21, 2018

A reminder to our grade 1 parents that if you plan on registering your child for full day, grade 2 French Immersion in September 2019, your application must be submitted by Thursday, January 31, 2019. This is a FIRM deadline and there will be no exceptions to this. Thank you to the parents who have registered their child already, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from the office next week.

Next week we will send home the Continuing in French Immersion forms for our existing F/I students. Parents, please complete the form and return it prior to Friday, January 25, 2019. We start this confirmation process early on since it helps with our staffing and class building for next year.

On Wednesday, December 19 our Kindergarten students are having their Holiday Concert. Family members are invited to come to the school at 1:45 pm for a 2:00 pm concert start. The concert will be taking place in the gymnasium.  Please bring a blanket to sit on and snuggle into while you sit back and enjoy the show.  We will have some chairs set up for any grandparents attending, or for anyone else that requires a chair.

Calling all Kindergarten Students! Kindergarten registration starts in January, 2019. Students entering Junior Kindergarten will have a birth year of 2015, while Senior Kindergarten students have a birth year of 2014. An orientation will be held in late May or early June for families who have registered their child for the 2019-2020 school year. Welcome to James W. Hill!

Multicultural club’s warm clothing drive continues with requests for new and gently used winter clothing. This campaign will run through until Wednesday of next week; December 19! The drop off box is sitting in the front hall by the Christmas tree. If you have any winter clothing that your child(ren) have outgrown, we would be happy to have it donated here!

Last call for new, unwrapped toys for the Toy Drive. Students are encouraged to bring in new, unwrapped toys to support local children who would otherwise not receive toys this holiday season. Last year the toy drive helped provide gifts to over 3576 local children and youth in the Oakville and Halton region. The greatest needs are gifts for youth ages 11-15, although gifts for other age groups are welcomed. Some ideas for this age group include sports equipment, electronics, posters, calendars, journals, school supplies, backpacks, jewellery, hair products and accessories, cosmetics, blankets, shower products, DVDs, etc. The deadline is Monday, December 17. Thank you!

The lost and found bin is once again overflowing with clothing, boots, mittens and water bottles. Anything that is leftover will be donated to the Winter Clothing Drive on December 21. In the meantime, please encourage your child to come down and look for lost items. We will have everything out on tables in the front hall during the first part of next week.

Thank you to all of the parents that have notified the school of early departures and /or late returns surrounding the holiday break. If you are leaving earlier than December 21 and/or returning after January 7, 2019, please let the school know your plans. Absences can be recorded, using the School Messenger system, for several days in a row. If you are not sure how to do this, we will be happy to help you, rather than have the system calling out to you during your vacation!

One last “house-keeping” note! If your child requires medication on a temporary basis, such as antibiotics or, a cold-induced inhaler, please note that you must bring a Doctor’s note to the school indicating why the medication is needed. When you arrive at the school, we will ask you to complete the requisite paperwork the provides permission to administer the medication, along with the dosage. School personnel will not administer medication without a Doctor’s note supporting the request.

Friday, December 21 is the last day of school prior to the Holiday Break. It is an EARLY DISMISSAL day which ends at 1:35 pm. Please ensure that you have made arrangements for your child(ren) to leave school at 1:35 that day. We wish all our James W. Hill Families a safe and happy holiday. See you all on January 7, 2019!
