JWH Weekly Update

September 24 - 28 , 2018

During the week of September 24 all nominations will be posted on the bulletin board in the main entrance of the school. Our first School Council meeting/election will take place at 6:30 pm on Monday, October 1st. Find out how funds raised through school council initiatives are spent. All parents are welcome to attend our school council meetings.

Milk and Pizza programs start on Monday, September 24. The milk and pizza fees are now closed.  The first session for both programs runs from September 24 through November 30, 2018.  Please note that students will no longer be able to make cash purchases for pizza on scheduled days. It is important that you send a lunch for your child if you have not ordered for the first pizza session.

The grade 6 overnight Mansfield trip will be taking place October 10, 11 and 12th, 2018. A parent information night has been scheduled for TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 at 6:30 pm. Mansfield’s Outdoor Centre provides hands-on learning experiences that complement and supplement the current Ontario Curriculum. Overall, their residential program is a mix of academic pursuits, physical and recreational activities as well as social/emotional growth and development of each participant. All the programs  are totally integrated, thereby making the students’ residential stay a community of living and learning.

School Photo Day is Thursday, September 27th. If your child will not be here on that day, our Retake day is Tuesday, October 23. Plan on wearing your smiles!

We are proud to once again be participating in the Terry Fox School Run. Over the past 7 years, James W, Hill has raised $8712.20 for cancer research in Terry’s name. He set an example of courage and compassion as he ran across Canada to help those suffering from cancer. Now it’s our turn to make a difference! Simply click http://www.terryfox.ca/JamesWHillPSOakville to join our school community in the fight against cancer. The Terry Fox Foundation has a great reputation, with $.82 of every dollar raised going directly to cancer research.

Fire Prevention Week takes place the week of October 1. You are invited to the Oakville Fire Department’s 19th Annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff! Taking place on Saturday, September 29, families will see rescue demonstrations, have bucket truck rides, play fire safety games, meet Sparky the Fire Dog just to name a few of the activities.  Come and meet your local firefighters and learn about fire prevention and safety. A free BBQ will be provided by McDonalds. The event takes place at the Oakville Fire Department Training Campus. Visit oakville.ca for more details.

Our grade 1 students will be heading to Springridge Farm on Tuesday, October 2. The fee for this field trip is $9.25 and is now available for payment on SchoolCashOnline. Permission forms are due back in the office on Monday, September 24. SchoolCashOnline payments will be available until Friday, September 28. This field trip follows the grade 1 science curriculum on Living Things. Students will explore living things, growing cycles and changes in seasons.

Please take note that if you are picking up your children earlier than 3:05 pm, it is helpful to let your children’s teachers know as well as the office. That way we can coordinate our efforts in ensuring that your children are available for pick up, when you need them. Calls or drop ins after 2:45 pm are not recommended as students may not be in their homeroom classes and it takes time to track them down. Thank you for your help with this.
